Juju rock is a monolithic hill situated on a small island along the Niger river. In 1795, Mungo Park, a Scottish explorer's ship wrecked at the foot of Juju rock while on an expedition to trace the course of the river from its source to the sea. Mungo Park, Richard Lander and his brother John Lander were the first Europeans to explore the Niger river. A cenotaph in memory of the achievement of Mungo Park and Richard Lander is sited about 2 km away from Juju rock.
