View with war damage

In 1946, when this picture was taken, Munich lay in ruins. How commonplace the sight of the war-damaged buildings must have been for the people of Munich is impressively shown by the woman in the front of the picture, who seems unmoved as she makes her way past the bombed-out fountain, briefcase in hand. In the background, the busy square in front of the destroyed Maxburg can be seen.
