Young Murray Garretty was not only the Junior Surf Champion in 1954-55 but also held a spot on the Australian Olympic Team along with Gary Winram. Murray went on to come 4th in he 1500m, beating Gary in 8th and he also got a Gold Medal in the 4x200m freestyle event.
