Riddled with the tragedy of losing her first husband and daughter in a shipwreck, Dorothea Eliza Smith moved to Peru, where she created botanical art. Little is known about her besides her journey from Scotland to Peru, but she spent at least three years in the South American countryside carefully painting a variety of fruit, including their stages of ripeness.
