This silk handkerchief, gifted to the Museo del Risorgimento by Marchioness Claudia Guastavilla, dates back to 1904. Featuring a white silk base with yellow laurel and oak branches, it bears the Papal emblem in each corner and a portrait of Pope Pius IX at its center. This silk scarf, given to political prisoners in 1846, symbolized the new Pope-King's benevolence. It was reproduced widely and launched a series of commemorative items for the pontiff.
