During Napoleon Bonaparte's visit to Bologna in 1805, the Bolognese National Guard, which had evolved from the Cispadane Republic to the Cisalpine Republic and then to the Kingdom of Italy, proudly displayed this tri-colored standard. The banner, made of white satin, features a three-colored border, a laurel wreath embroidered in silk, and the inscription "Guardia Nazionale" in white lettering on a brown background.
