Even though he was constantly travelling throughout Europe's most important theatres, Gioachino Rossini remained connected to Bologna for many years. He only definitively severed ties with the city in 1848. Despite calling Bologna “the noble homeland of aggressions and mortadella” in his later years, the city’s citizens remained fond of the Maestro from Pesaro. In fact, when he died in Paris in 1868, a few courageous admirers travelled there to bring back some of his relics, like the wig pictured here.
