Wari khipus consist of a main cord and smaller pendant cords with a single knot type. Some specimens feature cords wrapped with camelid fibers, forming bands of color. The information in these khipus were coded using attributes such as color, thickness, and the twists of the cords, as well as the way in which they were fastened on. They were ideal for encoding binary information in categories, e.g., the two groups in an ayllu, or community; male/female; youth/adult, etc.
