Museum "Journey to the Alcarria"

The book Journey to the Alcarria is the only book in the world with a museum fully devoted to its content and adventures. It is located in one of the towers of the castle of Torija, the first town in the province of Guadalajara where the traveller whose adventures are featured in the book spent the night. The castle of Torija, with a singular architectural style, has an unusual beauty for a military fortress. Its perfectly preserved condition allows us to gain a thorough understanding of a military fortress before the use of artillery and to tour it from inside. Its high walls were designed to stand in the way of assailants. Yet, they are not very thick, which suggests it was built before the use of artillery became widely available. Its tower keep is unique, almost independent of the rest of the fortress. It would serve as a last resistance stronghold.
