Uffizi Gallery
Florence, Italy

The Musical Angel is a fragment of a lost altarpiece which probably depicted the Madonna and Child with Saints. Rosso was one of the principle exponents of early sixteenth century painting in Florence; both he and Pontormo were students of Andrea del Sarto. He brought Florentine mannerism to France where he was called by King Francis I to fresco the palace at Fontainebleau.
