Many game manufacturers made board game, in the late 19th and early 20th century, that related to the "rags to riches" literature by Horatio Alger, Jr. Alger's stories, meant to inspire youth to better achievement, probably inspired youth's parents just as well. In playing these board games, players start at the bottom of the business and, in completing the race, arrive at the top as the winner.
