Landscape with Cattle

Philip James de Loutherbourgc.1767

London, United Kingdom

De Loutherbourg trained in Paris with Francesco Casanova. He moved to London in 1771 and worked for David Garrick, the actor-manager, at Drury Lane, making something of a speciality of scene-painting with dazzling light effects. It is perhaps not a surprise that his landscapes often make full play of glowing and extreme effects of light.
