This is one of the "dark ink paintings" in the mid-1970s for which Chou is famous. Here the thick layers of ink create a dark and concentrated effect. The pitch-dark void forms the major part of her paintings. The application of the "impact structural stroke" allows the ink washes on xuan paper to flow into each other in the painting, thus delineating a vivid rhythm. Chou moved to Australia in 1992 and continued painting. The works of her late years show a bold re-interpretation of the lines and forms of Chinese calligraphy.
