The play ends with Brian Boru and his son Murrough before the Battle of Clontarf, contemplating their fate as they refuse to turn their backs on their duty to Ireland. The premiere took place on 23rd March 1905 in scenery and costumes by Robert Gregory, son of Lady Gregory.
