"Máquina do mundo" borrows its title from the celebrated poem by Carlos Drummond de Andrade (1902–1987). In it, the metaphysical processes present in the life of individuals, such as time and modifications, are combined with important elements in the construction of societies – such as machinery, a reference to the industrializing process in which contemporaneity is situated, and marble, as a symbol of permanence and sculptural tradition.

For Laura, this work is a sort of “mechanical hourglass,” in which time is responsible for modifying elements which were previously used as a symbol of durability in the representative field. As in an hourglass, there is the continuous change of the form, in a duality between permanence and transformation. "Máquina do mundo" therefore rebegins, as in a cycle of beginning and end.
