"Landscape paintings and especially views of Mahon port were the most demanded topic by English middle-class bourgeoisie settled in Menorca Island in the beginning of the XVIII century.
The presence of the German painter Anton Schranz (1769-1839) in Menorca coincided with the last British island occupation. There he connected with the Italian painter Giuseppe Chiesa, who was the first landscape painter of the Mahon Port, as he was settled in the island from the middle of the XVIII century, where he developed a local painting school.
This view of the port represents Saint Anthony small bay, placed at the north. A frigate with the Royal Navy flag surpasses de composition as coming into the port and at the left back you can glimpse the city outline."
