Nanda Devi

Kendal-born amateur artist Theodore Howard Somervell is perhaps best remembered for being a key member of the British expeditions that attempted to reach the summit of Everest in 1922 and 1924.

Somervell spent a great part of his life in India and travelled widely within the country. Nanda Devi is the second highest mountain in India and was not climbed for the first time until 1936.
