Naphirisa Tariang is a writer who has written a poetry book that weaves in themes of nature that is intrinsic to the Khasi traditions as well as North Star, her first novel. Naphirisa talks about Khasi materlinial society leadership is born of the feminine kind. This kind of leadership embraces your feminity and understands the women are like a fabric of relations that can bring about change in a unique way. Emulating masculine forms of leadership are not the way of the Khasi women,

Nephirisa's poetry about nature and understands that her tribe's way of life is intrinsically linked to cycles of life, death and renewal. Through her writing spcifically about Khasi traditions, she hopes not only to document this till recently only oral history, but also to inspire and teach others how to understand hummanity's intrinsic dynamic with nature.

Naphirisa Tariang is studying literature in Kolkata. As she is the only woman in her class who is from a materlinial society, she wanted to write, to give her female peers the chance to understand that there is another way than a patriarchial society. She found ways in which to tell the story in The North Star of a man and woman supporting each other equally, by encouraging each other to become their best selves.
