Napoleon's portrait

Johann Michael Voltz1814

Fondazione Museo Glauco Lombardi

Fondazione Museo Glauco Lombardi
Parma, Italy

This print is a part of a group of engravings (invv. 2714-2767) of the same origin. It is one of the most popular anti-napoleonic caricatures: in the first week of its release, 20,000 copies were sold in Berlin, and we know that there are at least 23 versions of it. This one is a replica for the French public and it shows a caption that delves into the subject: Napoleon's unique profile consists of the symbols of his power and greed, among which the most impressive is the mass of corpses that forms his face.
