Napoleon, the mother of the grenadier

PELLERIN19th century

Musée Bertrand
Châteauroux, France

Before his coronation, feeling nostalgia for his youth, Napoleon went to Champagne, where he did his first military studies. While reliving his memories, a grenadier comes out of the ranks to join and embrace his old mother who was not far from the troop. He presents her to Napoleon so that she can give him a missive. The Emperor, not giving her time to express herself, thinks that this mother comes to claim her son, and so gives her a pension of 600 francs which she will receive until her son returns. For the Pellerin printing works, this is about showing Napoleon's generosity.
