The engine section structural test article for NASA's Space Launch System rocket arrived at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center on May 15 on the barge Pegasus.
The trip began on April 28 when Pegasus left NASA’s Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans on its 1,240-mile voyage. Alabama.
Engineers redesigned and stretched the Pegasus barge used for the space shuttle to accommodate the SLS rocket's massive, 212-foot-long core stage – the backbone of the rocket – and other flight hardware.
The now 310-foot-long barge will ferry the flight core stage from Michoud to other NASA centers for tests and launch.
