Eugène Rose de Beauharnais is the adopted son of Napoleon I, born of Empress Joséphine's first marriage. A loyal and talented general, it was he who commanded the Fourth Army Corps during the Russian campaign.
The illustrated passage from this National Glory depicts the Battle of Smolensk, Russia, during the summer of 1812. The fight ended with a French victory.
