As both unions and management pushed for more stringent safety measures towards the middle of the 20th Century, events like safety drives and contests became more common. Different departments and mill crews would compete to have the least number of incidents, usually with things like trophies, hats and shirts, small trinkets, or recognition in company publications. The men here are from two particularly safe unions at the National Tube facility in Ellwood City, Pennsylvania.
