This card is just outside the gate of Indian Alley, in downtown Los Angeles at 118 Winston Street. It says:
"NAVAJO CHIEF" - SCULPTURE
As a tribute to our fallen comrades, this great Chief invites us to look past our differences -- to realize the ephemeral like quality of all things. This dirt sculpture will crumble in time, yet in it you can see the beauty of earth and feel ground beneath your feet. It is a totem that says: they are the land.
In collaboration with the artist Erma Yazzie, this site is part of Mayor Villaraigosa's "Art Appears" program, which brings great art to public spaces in Los Angeles, Beautifying the city and engaging people outside the museum setting. Please treat this art piece as you would any other and enjoy respectfully.
