This coat is viscose lurex, hand crocheted with copper chain and silk satin lining. The crocheted discs were inspired by Gustav Klimt paintings. They were created in villages across Vietnam and assembled by hand in Horatio Creations' Hanoi workroom. Horatio Creations was established by Amelia Fendell, an American businesswoman, to better pay Vietnamese artisans and provide them with more challenging work. Women from 200 villages created work for the company. One representative from each village would travel into Hanoi to learn the techniques and would return to her village to share what she had learned with the other women. Each disc in the Navala coat was hand crocheted to Easton Pearson's specifications using hand dyed rayon yarn, integrated with fine copper chain. They were assembled by hand and stitched to the shape of a paper pattern in Hanoi. In the Brisbane workroom, these panels were stitched into the final coat and lined with silk satin.
