Necklace engraved from jet

Jet is a fossil sapropelite, a specific form of petrified coal, which originated from the wood of large monkey-puzzle trees during the Jurassic period. Jet is also referred to as "black amber" and was often processed in mining regions for the production of mourning jewellery.
