“As the king of the dead and the lord of the afterlife, Osiris held an important place in Egyptian funerary religion. Here Osiris holds the crook and the flail, symbols of his kingship. Despite his importance, amulets of Osiris are rare and typically do not appear until late in Egyptian history. Small metal figurines of this god left by pilgrims as votive offerings are more common. Perhaps this pendant was originally such a gift.” (Jennifer Wegner, label text, “Sacred Adornment: Jewelry as Belief in Ancient Egypt”)
