A broken spike from an umbrella etc, it is sharpened on a file and stuck into a piece of wood cut from a branch of a tree. A awl is used when making Corf and chicho etc from materials like Ergema, Okolle or Meti. It used for making the hole through which the skin fibres are put to be sewn around a cole fibre.The direction in which the Muta is held , determines the form of the container. Muta is also used when splitting eg Leaf Stems up into thinner fibres.
