After studying Ceramics at London’s Royal College
of Art, Turner opened her first workshop in 1984 and soon received The Crafts Council’s New Craftsman grant. Her work is marked by a masterly understanding and command of material, often inspired by the Suffolk landscape where she grew up.
This latticework piece is an intricate, interconnected and ultimately fragile structure that emerges like a fossilised form of basketry. Fashioned from the muddy clay sourced from the Deben river foreshore, the final warped shape is derived from controlled decisions
that lead to unexpected results. In her quiet yet
clear-cut voice, she addresses ideas of volume, geometry, and texture. For Turner, each
process is evolutionary: as she works
on one piece, ideas are developed
for the next.
