Families often would throw their broken items into a trash pile behind their house or in their basement areas. The Netzley's first house in Lisle was destroyed by fire, and they built this house on top ofit. When volunteers and professional archaeologists excavated underneath this house, they found some broken pottery that was charred, probably from the fire, and some that was not, probably from a normal trash pile.
