Colour postcard showing the New Cross Empire Theatre within a streetscape of New Cross Road in London. The theatre was built by noted theatre architect Frank Matcham in 1899. It features a canopy above the main entrance, five large circular windows and two corner towers with a lone statue perching on the top of each. The building continued to be used as a variety theatre into the 1950s, after which it was demolished. A petrol station and car sales yard later occupied the site.
