From the Artist: As I emerged from my winter cocoon in the spring of 2020, I realized that life would take on a "New Normal" shape. Working in the studio, I sculpted face masks of bent wood and paint (my primary medium for decades). I installed them on the wall according to the Fibonacci method, which was my attempt to bring stability and order to an otherwise chaotic situation. The blue paint is an optimistic, soft and peaceful color. I like to bring beauty into this world. So out of an ugly situation, I strove to create something beautiful. My sculpture installation imagines a new skin formation on our bodies that may remain with us indefinitely. Will face masks become part of our future DNA? Just as the COVID virus is constantly replicating itself, my installation of "New Normal" is doing the same.
