Hu Shanyu, born in Guangdong. He entered in Hangzhou National Academy of Art in 1929 and studied under Professor Lin Fengmian and Cai Weilian , and then enrolled in National School of Fine Arts in Paris, France ( École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Paris) in 1935. His works were shown in France Spring Salon 1934. He founded the Wu Society and curated exhibitions in Guangzhou. He taught in Guangzhou Municipal College of Fine Arts and National Academy of Art School. He was a professor of National Academy of Art School, The East China Branch of the Central Academy of Fine Arts and Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts.
