Based on a detail of 'The Madonna of the Rosary' 1670-80 by Bartolome Murillo, DPG281 in Dulwich Picture Gallery. Murillo has emphasised the beauty and humanity of his Virgin and Child. Mear One's mixed race mother and child are challenging and demanding. They are today's every mother and child, demanding equality (on the halo). Oddly there are stars and stripes on this universal message.
