Black and white photograph of a television screen displaying the news on 12 September 1981. On the screen is a scene from the anti-Springbok tour protests, showing a line of police officers holding batons and protesters holding shields and wearing protective helmets. The television screen reads "NEWS".

  • Notes: Notes provided by John Mercer June-July 2021: Having reached a safe haven debriefing and refreshments were the order of the day. We settled in to watch how the days events unfolded according to the mainstream media. It became clear that the day had seen many events, incidents and full on action – not just in the Marlborough St/Onslow Road/Dominion Road area. I began to attempt to capture some of the images that rolled across the screen.
