This watercolour depicts the ford in the mid Devon village of Newton St Cyres. The village grew up around this shallow crossing place over the Shuttern brook.
On the far right is the New Shuttern Bridge, an early 19th century bridge built from brick and stone. On the far left is a small section of the Old Shuttern Bridge; a grade II listed 18th century stone built footbridge.
