Informs Hilldring that he is writing a book which deals with racial integration in the armed forces and asks if Hilldring can give any information ”about the decision to have no racial discrimination in OCS and how this decision came to be made.” Handwritten postscript in blue ink explains that Lee’s ”publisher’s deadline is Aug 1,” therefore, he asks if Hilldring can write back as soon as there is a copy of Nichols’ rough draft of the chapter dealing with this subject. The book referred to was Breakthrough on the Colored Front, published in 1954.
