This sculpture belongs to the period when Maria Teresa Ripoll was studying at the Catalan Regional Government Studio-School of Painting and Sculpture in Tarragona. It was normal to work with a natural model like the one presented in the work. The sculptor never lost sight of the noucentist inspiration that marked her training, or that of the models of the first Italian renaissance, some influenced by the peculiar archaic-historicist concept of her teacher Joan Rebull. M. Teresa Ripoll Sahagun (1914-1987) She commenced her artistic studies in 1935 at the Catalan Regional Government Studio-School of Painting and Sculpture in Tarragona, becoming a disciple of the sculptor Joan Rebull. When the Julio Antonio Sculpture Award was created, she competed on several occasions and won it in 1946 and 1949. In January 1950, she moved to Rome, after her husband Abelard Paul was appointed Director of the Spanish Tourism Office in this European capital. Her husband’s second transfer would take her to Havana until 1961. Although she continued to paint for many years, she only worked in sculpture for four years, while she lived in Tarragona, producing realistic works that were markedly influenced by her teacher, Joan Rebull.
