Nina Davuluri, Miss America

In 2013, Nina Davuluri of New York State was crowned Miss America, the first Indian American to hold the title. Her historic win sparked racist and xenophobic comments on the Internet, as well as praise from Indians in the U.S. and the American public at large. For the talent portion of the beauty pageant, Davuluri performed a Bollywood-style dance.
