The Nocturne is the most monumental example of the Sparton Corporation's mirrored radios. Composed of a simple plywood-encased central unit concealed by chromed supports and a mirrored glass façade, it has an appearance of dramatic modernity. Standing nearly four feet tall, the radio was meant for large public or private spaces and was offered at the considerable sum of $350-well beyond the means of the average consumer. Sparton overestimated the salability of the design; despite a prolific ad campaign emphasizing the designer Teague's creative involvement, very few were made.
