Noh mask Hashihime

This mask is used for the Noh play “Kanawa,” which was based on the story of Hashihime, a woman who, betrayed by her husband, soaked in the Uji River for 37 days in order to place a curse on him, and became a living demon. The tremendous tenacity of the woman is well expressed in this strong distinct style of the mask.
