This is a set of three hanging scrolls depicting a scene from the Noh drama “Okina”. It was painted by Tachibana Hisayoshi who was the father of the last lord of the Yanagawa domain.
The man in the central scroll is a main character ‘Okina’ who is a white old man of divine spirit dancing for peace. The man in the left scroll is Sanbaso (a black old man), and the one in the right scroll is Menbakomochi (a mask bearer). The box contains two masks of a white old man and a black old man.
