This small, eight-panel screen depicts a Noh performance "Okina", which is presumed to be held inside the Imperial Palace to celebrate the imperial proclamation for the kanpaku to Toyotomi Hideyoshi in 1585. In this screen painting, it is said that the Emperor Goyozei is sitting behind the blind and a man with his gold fan among men on the balcony is identified Hideyoshi. Some "Namban-jin (European people)" are enjoying the performance in front of the stage. One of them has a long tobacco pipe, and this kind of figure became a typical image for Namban-jin from the late 16th to the early 17th century.
