The source of inspiration for this ballet was the ritual dances of the Aboriginals, the natives of Australia.
As the title suggests, this ballet refers to people without a permanent home, as dancers who are constantly on the move for their performances.
Kylián recognized this theme of travel and the restlessness of moving around in ‘Ebony Concerto’ by Igor Stravinsky, who wrote it for clarinetist Woody Herman, and was inspired by old jazz.
The dancers change direction frequently, like wanderers looking for their way, following the complicated rhythms of the music. Their path is endless.
