A South African Coloured Corps Figure by the South African artist Noria Mabasa (b.1938). Mabasa created these clay figures and heads of South African Policemen and soldiers during the 1980s and the height of Apartheid. She created the figures as a response to the police and the military being the protectors of white people as she describes them. Short Biography: Noria Mabasa was born in 1938 in Xigalo in South Africa. In 1974 Mabasa started to create clay figures after having a dream. She continued her clay work until 1983 when she met the sculptor Nelson Mukhuba who inspired her to start sculpting in wood.
