Sandburg was celebrated worldwide, but particularly proud was his ancestral home of Sweden. King Gustav VI Adolf sent this birthday message to Sandburg accompanied by an 'Order of the North Star' medal: "Seventy five years is quite an achievement though nothing of course compared with what you have done for us in prose and verse...Keep grandly on."
