The north terrace at the Gibberd Garden with the plaster cast of a Metope from the Parthenon and showing Sir Frederick Gibberd's use of salvaged architectural elements in his garden. He noted, 'I saw in a workshop, worn carvings from University College, Oxford being copied with harder stone. Told that the old carvings would be ground up for reconstructed stone, I asked if I could have some....out of carvings that were left over I made (with the help of two Rhodesian architectural students) a plant container, We cemented the stones together with a mortar made from the stone and hollowed out the centre for plants.' These salvaged items were soon to be supplemented with sculptures often by young and then, unknown artists. Dated July 1965.
