Nostalgic Mountains – Indigenous Wedding Ceremony

The 1956 photo is part of Huang Tse-hsiu's "High Mountains, Ancient Affections" series. The subjects are richly attired Atayal newlyweds, the groom carrying the bride in a chair on his back, a tribal tradition. Although it looks as if the photographer arranged the pose, the couple's joyous expressions are genuine, the highlight of this figural work.
