The project ‘Don’t Call me Grandad’ was the final visual component for his Master’s of Fine Arts thesis in Sequential Art. It depicts the traditional process of burial and accompanying rituals for the recently deceased. The narrative is told from the perspective of his brother almost in a new journalistic sense. Mohammed AlShaibani's thesis discussed the possibility of using New Journalism (as popularised by Gay Talese and Truman Capote) in comic books; the concept of telling a story of a real individual through the first person by an external agent. The process required an abundance of material and interviews to completely place the author in the mind of his/her subject.
