This scrapbook of astronomical notes and drafts shows Astronomer Royal Nevil Maskelyne attempting to tackle the question of how to use the lunar distance method to find longitude at sea. Part notebook for rough work, part reference handbook, it contains calculations and tables of observations alongside copies of publications from the Philosophical Transactions and the Connaissances des Temps, the French equivalent of the Nautical Almanac.
